WORK AND LIFE BALANCE




Introduction

Work and life balance is a one of the most important part in Human Resource Management because unbalance work and family life relationships are caused for bad health, low performance and low outcomes of employees, their families and organizations or companies. So however the family and the work is most important part of employees lives. So the work and life balance is about the managing very effectively between paid work and other activities like spending time with family or other important activities that relative to our life. Finally this balancing between work life and family life brings real benefits to both employees and organizations. Work Life balance has always been a concern of those interested in the quality of working life and its relation to broader quality of life (Guest, 2002). The articulation of work and life, cast as work-life balance, has become a key feature of much current government, practitioner and academic debate (Eikhob, Warhurt & Haunschild, 2007). It is believed that balancing a successful career with a personal or family life can be challenging and impact on a person’s satisfaction in their work and personal life roles (Broers, 2005).

Importance of Work and Life Balance

Employee is busy at all the times in their organizations and with the high pressure of work and stressful jobs are caused to bad health and miss family members of employees. Now the work and life balance concept is important because it allows  employee to maintain a time to work as well as personal matters. So by the good balancing employee can have a quality work of life.


Steps to improve work and life balance

  • Creating a work leisure plan

                                 Employee can allocated appropriate time to work and career                                                                development goals and at the same time allotted time for leisure and personal                                  development. Employees also use a compressed work week plan to build a                                         balance.
  • Ignore the activities that waste the time and money
                                  Employees should not participate the activities of wasting time and energy
                                  because there is no inputs for work or personnel life.

  • Prioritize the work
                                Employees do not give priority or do not plan the work. If they can do it helps                                  to avoid unnecessary time delays and utilize the time to personnel life. 

  • Reserve enough time to relaxation
                                  This helps for better work life balance. And increase the productivity and                                          develop the personal life relationships also.

  • Outsourcing work
                              It serves two purposes, first the work gets done and the other is person can                                   focus on other things which may align more with skills and knowledge and may                                 be less stressful.


Benefits of work life balance

  • Work life balance increases the motivation of employees and helps them to increase performance
  • Employees who are highly motivated can help the business grow as they are more attached to their job and careers
  •  Healthy lifestyles can be maintained by having a work life balance
  • It helps people to relieve their stress as they can spend leisure time with their near and dear ones

Organizations need to adapt to people centric culture supported by work-life balance initiatives (Equal Employment Opportunities Trust,2007). Employees, able to regulate emotions and made use of work-life balance programs, reported reduced feelings of risk towards position in the organization (Rangrezi, 2010). Strong recommendations suggesting implementation of human resource management policies to support employees for satisfactory work-life balance and the need for organizations to develop supportive culture which recognizes the contributions of individual employees have been made (Construction Industry Institute Inc, 2005).






Conclution


However this work and life balance is required for all the sectors of employees because its increase the efficiency. This is very much important for success of an organization or a company. So the people who are having work and life balance can show wonderful results in every section in the society.

They said that “ Love and work are said to be the foundation of being human and both are very important for happiness of workers life. When we think contrarily, we can possibly find pathways to have a better balance between work and home. Facts suggests that improvements in people management practices, especially work time and work location flexibility, and the development of supportive managers, contribute to increased work-life balance.
